Growing up on the streets of Detroit was no easy task. However, Tiffany Suggs found a way to accomplish her dreams. At the age of 13, she watched her mother die of cancer leaving behind herself and 4 siblings one of which was a 10 month old baby. Despite the hardships she faced Tiffany was determined to continue moving forward. Upon graduating from high school she went on to Eastern Michigan University where she earned her degree in education. She continued on to graduate school and earned her master’s degree. Although, many things got into the way of her success Tiffany Suggs was determined to press forward with hope, faith, and the sheer will to make it.
During the years after her mother’s passing Tiffany was forced to be take on many adult responsibilities. Through those experiences she began to value her educational experience and appreciate the bonds that she had developed with many of her teachers who desperately wanted her to succeed. Now, after many years of experience in the educational field working with underprivileged students, Tiffany has a realistic view on how having high expectations for student behaviors can lead to academic success. In her book The Power of 10, she lays out ten basics of classroom management and teacher effectiveness.
